Bible Passage: Josh 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Let these words sink in for a moment. Read this passage again. We have a God who deeply cares about us. In the preceding verse, He gave us the tools to realize courage in our lives. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night to be careful to do everything written in it. Then, you will be able to endure and prosper.

I allow the busyness of life to stifle my time in God’s Word. I used to meditate on His Word daily and journal my thoughts, but I have allowed the vagaries of life to preempt this training so that I might better handle life's challenges. I lost on two fronts: time that was misspent drawing closer to God and a time to strengthen my ability to endure.

God gives us time, but we must choose how to spend it wisely. It takes time to meditate on God’s Word and write down my thoughts, but when I stop to consider the blessings that result, there is no better way to spend my time.

Some might think God’s Word is obsolete. It was not just written for the people of its time but for you and me today. Although our circumstances have definitely changed, God has not, nor have His methods for living peacefully. We have been given a gift that we must choose to use. This Book can sit and collect dust or be used to encourage, enable, and help us draw closer to God.

Take a few minutes each day to meditate on God’s Word. It only takes a moment to equip us for the day ahead; it will be the best time spent.
