Bible Passage: 1 John 4:20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar, for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.

We live in a world filled with hatred. The polarization of our society creates a divide that seems irreconcilable, and the animosity between each side fuels hatred. I can’t believe how stupid this division has become. People I call close friends now will not even talk to me. Family members stand toe to toe against each other in a war of words with destruction as its reward.

Faith has no impact on this tension. The children of God, who are to be known by their love, revile each other as if they had never heard of God's love. Brothers and sisters in Christ stand ready to engage in a war of words without thinking of why Christ died to free them to love unconditionally.

We are so set in our ways and want our way that we have left our first love at the altar and gone out to fight because of our political views. When will it stop?

We need a change of heart. We need to set aside our wants and desires to show love amid life's trials and tribulations. We need to recognize that God is still on the throne, and His way is a cause to love others unconditionally. We need to stop focusing on what’s wrong and remain steadfast in what is right and good. We must remember that loving our neighbor as Christ loves us is critical to making the world a better place.

Will our torment of each other change anything? We are not listening to each other because self-centeredness has replaced God’s peace. Let’s show the world that love, not hate, is the answer!
