Bible Passage: 2 Timothy 2:24 - And the servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient.

The bible needs no defense. It is not up to you and me to defend its teaching. What is required of us is that we live by faith and that are lives are a witness to the truth we understand to be present in the Word of God.

Scripture is under attack today. Many people, including pastors and teachers, have claimed that elements of scripture are no longer relevant for today’s living. We have people carving up the scriptures as we would carve a turkey at Thanksgiving, throwing away pieces we don’t want and keeping the things we find acceptable.

I am not a biblical scholar, but when Christ said, not one jot or tittle should be removed from the Word of God, He was not leaving scripture up to us to decide right from wrong. We could argue relevance all day, and no one wins; what we have done is a waste of time.

I am a simple man with what I pray is a simple understanding. Christ told His disciples what it took to be one of His followers. They must deny themselves, pick up their cross and follow Him. My heart's desire, therefore, must align with the desire of God; my happiness must be found in Christ, not in the desires of my heart. My peace and comfort cannot be found in material living, but rather from a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Christ summed it all up the entire law with two commandments love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself. I know I am a sinner saved by grace. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Why don’t we focus on God rather than what’s in our out of the Word of God? Why don’t we live as servants of each other in harmony with God rather than looking to justify our thoughts, words, and actions? God is not glorified in self-centeredness, but rather in surrendered love for Him and each other.

Is our life a stumbling block for others hindering them from drawing closer to God? Do we need to win at the cost of anther coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? When will surrender be our answer and love by our response for a living? We have a choice, and God is waiting on our response, let’s not disappoint Him.
