Bible Passage: Romans 12:1-2 I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
God has not changed. He is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow. What has changed and continues to change is our relationship with Him. We have moved our relationship with God to an event we attend, and the result is that the number of people of faith continues to shrink. People walk away from God because they no longer see Him as relevant.
Wow, I can’t believe I wrote that, but it’s true. God wants a relationship with us, but the world seems to have captured our attention. The busyness of life and our desire to satisfy ourselves leave no room for God. We may be willing to attend church but allowing it to transform our lives seems to invade the life we desire.
We need to step back for a moment and reassess our priorities. Why were we created? Should I live to satisfy myself, or is there a more meaningful purpose for living? God created man to enjoy fellowship with Him, but God’s creation captivated man’s attention.
How do we return to God's purpose when He created humanity? In his letter to the churches in Rome, Paul prescribes a new way of looking at life. This approach does not focus on us but on God. We need to look at life surrendered to God's desires. This approach places the world’s desires on the altar of God to be sacrificed as a means of worship.
Approaching life in this way can only be possible if we choose to renew our minds by reflecting on the good, acceptable, and perfect things of God found in His Word. We need to make God a part of every aspect of our lives. Without His presence, the world will grab and hold our attention, and we will be drawn away from Him.
Vigilance is required so that we do not conform to the world. When God is our priority, the peace of God will be our reward, and we will be equipped to handle the trials and tribulations of a fallen world.
