Bible Passage: Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
People of hope do not live in fear, anxiety, or despair because the future outshines the present. Life's challenges can be overwhelming occasionally because we allow the moment to close our eyes to the truth that awaits us in glory. All who trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior have nothing to worry about because our eternal future is secured in His suffering, death, and resurrection.
We tend to focus on the here and now, caught in the web that the world spins. When we seek God with all our heart, mind, body, and soul, the world’s chains are as weak as a spider’s web. Our circumstances, personal relationships, health, wealth, and well-being are given more power than they should be since they are all temporary. Focusing on the here and now tends to turn off reasoning because we live in the moment and are satisfied in the present.
We must understand that we will never be satisfied by the world. Man's actions will always leave us wanting. Our hope is not in the present, and our contentment is not man-made, though the world would have us think otherwise.
I am most unhappy when I take life seriously and set aside my current discontent to walk humbly before my God. I am less frustrated in study, prayer, and praise. I think less about myself when I serve others. I find joy in giving rather than acquiring. I want to fix the present, but its brokenness is outside my control. What I can control is my response to the maladies of life and the actions of others.
Anger, frustration, and discontent are choices that rob us of the joy of life. Their crippling effect will not happen unless we allow them control. Therefore, let us focus on what God wants us to do in the present, not what our sinful nature might choose. We will find joy and peace in the presence of God and nowhere else.
I choose His peace over the world’s chaos, His joy over and His will over mine, because my future is in Him and not me!
