Bible Passage: Luke 16:11-13 “Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous (someone else’s) wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Many may dream of winning the lottery, thinking of all the good they might do. But the truth is, if we have yet to do well with the little we already have, what hope might we have of doing differently with more? We must understand that stewardship is an integral element of our faith journey. God has blessed each of us with what we can handle.

Our society is consumed by the pursuit of material wealth, believing that more is always better. We are driven by our desires, which are often fleeting and insatiable. We accumulate possessions, only to discover that they do not truly fulfill us. Why is this the case?

With each move, I was confronted with the excess I had accumulated. The process of packing, moving, and unpacking these unused items was a stark reminder of their lack of value. I had invested time and effort in acquiring them, only to realize that they were mere distractions from what truly mattered.

We are stewards of our time, talents, and treasures. Life is God’s blessing entrusted to us. We can focus on the blessings or the giver of them. When we focus on the blessings, they control us. We become the center of attention, and time, talents, and treasures become our masters. We squander our time and talents to acquire more treasures, only to realize that the more we acquire, the more we want. There is never enough.

When we focus on The Giver, our time, talents, and treasures are directed at serving Him rather than ourselves. Our desires become God’s desire for our lives. Our faith provides focus and satisfying wants, enabling us to be stewards of His grace and mercy poured into our lives.

The world will continue to draw our attention to meet its demands, which can never be satisfied. God’s request is simple. Love Me above ALL else, and love your neighbor as I have loved you. We must live in this world, but we need not be controlled by it. We can choose God, and if we don’t, the world will take control and shut God out.

Where is your focus? Who or what controls your life? Do you understand your role as steward of God’s blessings? God is waiting for our response. Let’s not disappoint Him!
